Where Can I Design My Own Wedding Gown

Summary: Many women want to design their own wedding apparel.  Few design and tailor the entire gown from scratch, but it can be the best way to get your dream outfit. My own skills at sewing are very inadequate to the task of constructing my own pattern, however I did lay out a design for the wedding dress of my dreams and had it put together by a professional seamstress.

My first step in designing a wedding dress was finding out where I could design it.  I had some serious questions, and came across a website that had a template for wedding dresses.  There are many of these available, and I managed to crank out a few designs that were close to what I wanted, but some of my idea’s related to personal pictures I wanted to incorporate with my dress.

While the websites were a good start, I had some technical details about the size and position of things on the dress.  I wanted to make sure I put each seam in the correct location.  With this in mind I looked through the yellow pages and found a professional designer.  I made an appointment with him and he gave me some good tips from his own personal experience.

I was very impressed with the quality of his work, and actually signed up with his crew to construct my gown.  Following those situations with the website and the professional, I sat down with a pencil and put my own design to paper.  I am not a very good drawer, but it seemed to look reasonably close to what I wanted.

A step later, I realized there are some sewing pattern software systems out there.  I invested in one and was able to create pictures I could move around to put the finishing touches on my gown.  It also had a lot of ideas I had not previously considered, such as lace collars, different dress tails, and suggestions of different fabric.

A week following the delivery of my pattern to him, the dress maker contacted me to say it was ready for an initial fitting.  I was nervous to see my design in reality, and hoped it was what I wanted.

When I arrived at the shop, I was almost too anxious to look at the dress.  The designer, Paul, brought it out and I could feel my eyes fill with tears immediately.   It was fantastic in every detail.

The pattern I had made was the right size for me.  I used a tape measure around almost every part of my body, so the amount of alteration was minimal.  I would recommend consulting a designer, or looking into online websites to design your own dress to anyone.
