Wedding Maternity Dresses

Summary: In the not too distant past a pregnant bride got married quickly before a judge or in the minister or priest’s office.  No way would she have a big wedding or wear white.

Now there are maternity wedding dresses available from some bridal shops and specialty stores.  This is not a case where you order the dress three or four months before the big day.  If you do that it probably won’t fit when you get it.

Your maternity wedding gown can be every bit as stylish as any other wedding dress.  You can have a knee length dress, mid-calf or full length dress.  You may however want to avoid a train since so many brides stumble and you can’t afford to fall.

Your dress can be strapless, halter, or have spaghetti straps, long sleeved or sleeveless.  You will want to avoid a gown that emphasizes the waist so avoid sashes.

You can choose to wear white if that is your dream or you can choose a wedding dress in your favorite color and yes you can have a big wedding with bridesmaids, flower girls, whatever your hear desires.  It is your wedding so make it the one you have always dreamed of.

Most of the big name wedding dress designers like Vera Wang offer a maternity line.  You can be sure that you will find a dress that you will love.

Not all maternity wedding dresses are found in high end designer collections.  You can go on line and see literally dozens of lovely maternity wedding gowns and dresses that are affordable for most brides.

If it is not you who is pregnant but your maid of honor or bridesmaid, there are delightful maternity dresses for them from companies that produce bridesmaids dresses.

Don’t let anyone talk you out of your wedding plans/dreams.  This is one of the most important days of your life so plan it the way you have always dreamed your wedding would be.  Of course since you are pregnant talk to your doctor about consuming alcohol, dancing, etc.  Her response will likely be based partially  on how far along the pregnancy is.

Depending on the time of year you may choose to wear flowers in your hair or a pretty hat instead of a veil.  Choose what works best with your wedding dress.  If the dress is a formal style the veil may be in order.  But either flowers or a hat would go with an informal maternity wedding gown.

There is no reason to keep your wedding small and quiet just because you are pregnant.  Celebrate and be proud of both the new baby and the new husband.
