Pin-Up Style Wedding Dresses

Pin up girls were popular in the 1940’s and 50’s during World War II and the Korean conflict.  Movie stars like Betty Grable, Rita Hayworth and others posed in revealing clothing and poses.  The pictures were pinned up in the lockers of many high school boys and hundreds of G.I.’s serving during the wars.

In the 1970’s Farrah Fawcett was probably the most popular pin up.  Pin up wedding dresses tend to show more flesh than other styles. Low necklines, sleeveless and or strapless wedding gowns characterize the style.  These dresses also emphasize the best and tend to cinch at the waist.

All of this can be done tastefully.  Most pin-up style wedding dresses are acceptable under any circumstances.  However if your dress is strapless it would be respectful to wear a shawl or cape is you are getting married in a church or synagogue.  Some houses of worship insist you wear a cover up of some kind.

There are many absolutely gorgeous pin-up type wedding dresses that almost no one would object to.  My aunt got married to a GI during World War II and wore what we used to call a mermaid gown.  The dress was form fitting all the way to the ankles and then flared out a little and looked like a mermaid’s fin.  She was a stunning bride.

Today’s bride can wear just about any style gown that she wants, contemporary, retro, vintage, pin-up, etc. If you want the pin up style dress go online and print some pictures that you can bring with you when you are looking for the perfect wedding dress.

Your grandfather may remember the war-time pin up girls so show him the dresses that you like and ask his opinion.  He will be thrilled to have been consulted. It seems like the men in our lives get left out of wedding preparations until it comes time to pay for everything.

Some of the top wedding dress designers have come up with updated versions of the pin-up style wedding dresses.  Some of them are stunning!  You may have some trouble picking the one perfect dress for you from a bevy of perfect dresses.

You don’t have to wear white unless you want to.  A red dress in a pin-up style would be absolutely stunning. If you really love the pin-up look why not carry the theme over into your hair style and makeup as well as your wedding reception décor.

Your bridesmaids dresses can also be pin-up style but I’d advise against getting this style of dress for your flower girls.  Let them look like little girls.

You’d be surprised how really pretty you and your bridesmaids will look in these sophisticated pin-up style wedding dresses.
