Modest Wedding Dress With Corset

Summary: I am a full figured woman, so when it came time to look for a plus size wedding dress I wasn’t sure I could find anything that would look good, and make me appear a little slimmer.  After many disappointing trips to different wedding shops I came across a small boutique that had a modest corset top dress.

Considering the size of the waist I thought there was no way I could get into it.  My mother was with me and she urged me into the dress anyways.  She also did the top up, and with a little effort, I looked into the mirror and saw an incredibly beautiful woman in an ivory gown.  My silhouette was much more streamlined that it normally would be and I was thrilled with the effect.

There was a small amount of beading along the hem of the gown, but otherwise it was very plain silk style.  The gown had spaghetti straps on the arms so it would be necessary to purchase a strapless bra to ensure it fit properly.

I was impressed that the style of dress made me feel so beautiful.  The top, although reminiscent of lingerie brought an interesting touch to the dress and I figured my husband to be would appreciate the style. There were some embroidered embellishments on the bodice and neckline that emphasized my curves to their best effect.

The corset part of the dress ended at my hip and the rest of the dress flared out to the perfect length, just at my ankle.  I had never thought to feel like a princess, but this dress certainly did make me feel that way.

The skirt was not very full, but would require a crinoline.  I did not by the crinoline at the same store, but instead went through a few online stores and bought one there.  It required a little trim from the bottom but was otherwise well constructed.

Today I keep a photo of me in my wedding dress outside the chapel above the mantel where guests and I can view it.  I still have a hard time thinking I looked that beautiful and elegant, and when I start to feel a bit down on myself I go into the living room and have a good look.

Even though I am a plus size woman, I find the corset top of an otherwise modest dress can make smaller women look great too.  Some women who may not have as full a bust have other parts moved around so to appear fuller.  There are some women who do not have a large definition between the end of their waist and hip; a corset will bring out more of a definition there as well.

I do recommend a modest white or ivory wedding dress with a corset to anyone of any shape and size.  The only caution I would give, is make sure you do not lace it too tightly as you want to keep room for your scrumptious wedding feast!
