Dress For Caribbean Wedding

Summary: There is something so utterly romantic about a Caribbean wedding. Last year my God Daughter got married in the US Virgin Islands and it was probably the most perfectly beautiful wedding I have ever been to. I don’t even know if writing about it can do justice to it.
I did not have to help much with the wedding. When I got the invitation I offered to help out right away, but my efforts were met with a “Don’t worry Auntie Emma, I’ve got it all planned out. Just buy your ticket and show up.”
So I did what I was told and showed up at the time and place and really had a great time. My over-controlling Goddaughter had created a fantastic casual wedding with really beautiful baby blue. The actual ceremony was on the beach. It was a good thing it wasn’t raining at the time! The reception was at the nearby resort where everyone was staying.
I was completely surprised by her selection of wedding gown. I thought she would go with a more traditional pure which satin gown, but instead she choose a very light silk sarong dress. It was trimmed in a different light blue fabric and was a replica of the small sarong the flower girl wore. They also had the same style of hair which was exceedingly charming.
All members of the wedding party were wearing sandals instead of shoes. This was a great choice as they are more optimal for travel, they also can be worn throughout the entire planned honeymoon, and really shoes are very inappropriate beach attire. I cried to see how absolutely stunning she and her groom were. It was definitely a dream come true for them.
One thing I did notice was that the bridesmaids did not wear the same sarong style dress. Instead they each had a light cotton fabric gown that had the same style, but were dyed different colors. After the ceremony I saw each of them wearing the same dress when going about sightseeing.
The reception was not filled with gifts as we had been asked to leave them at home. They did not want the burden of dragging them home from their honeymoon, and we did not need to package anything up to bring to their wedding destination. As well as that was the idea that the wedding favours were very small trinkets that we were able to fit very easily in our suitcases for the trip home.
Having a Caribbean wedding is wonderful. You don’t need to keep it to the beach theme, and you can design your honeymoon travels around it, whether it’s the Bahamas, Jamaica or any summer feeling location you are bound to enjoy your wedding and your wedding guests will have a fantastic time.
