I remember my grandmother, we called her Nan, would wear this
utterly fantastic ruby necklace with matching earrings. She said
Grandpa had bought it for her in India before he passed, and wearing it
made her feel closer to him. When Nan passed, she left me her set
which incorporates well with my own special collection.
Although Nan’s jewellery is treasured, I must say my favourite piece
of 22k Indian gold jewellery is a silver bracelet with an intricate
design I received from my husband on our fifth wedding anniversary. I
have worn it every day since he presented it, and it goes with
everything I wear. It is hard to find pieces of jewellery that are so
flexible.
My other frequently worn Indian gold pieces include an emerald set
toe ring that fits comfortably and sets off my white sandals, a set of
charming bangles that twinkle quietly when I move, and an enamel
pendant I wear on a chain around my neck.
Of course, one of the more coveted pieces of Indian gold jewellery
may include diamond rings or, if you want to go up a bit in price, a
diamond set with earrings. My own jewellery collecting ambition is to
own one such set for me, but I might have to buy them one ear at a time!
I once came across an arrangement of two-tone 22k gold pendants;
they were lovely with great floral design patterns. I invested in one,
and currently wear it on a set of chains and found similarly designed
nose pin for special occasions when I wish to add a little mystery to
my appearance.
When my daughter, Lena, was two I bought her a Indian gold bangle
and had it inscribed with her birth date and name. She adored it, and
I managed to get one for myself with a very similar design. We wear
ours on special outings together. She is very proud of such a
beautiful piece of jewellery and shows everyone she can when she has it
on.
My next planned surprise for Lena involves getting a 22k gold ring
that has her birth stone, the diamond, embedded in it. Of course, I
will probably wait until her fifteenth birthday to ensure she is
responsible enough to care properly for it. She would like a
traditional forehead adornment but I am not quite convinced she will
keep track of it yet.
I never thought I would have such a diverse collection of Indian
jewellery. It starts with one piece, and then you see something so
wonderful you need to have it too. The investment in some really key
pieces is worth the price; they will incorporate well into your
existing wardrobe and bring you beauty for many years.
